Thursday. I didn't finish with everything yesterday so now I have to go back. Lets hope they don't poke me with needles again.
So today I went with Mihiris father in a tuktuk to do the dental part of the "full body checkup". We arrived at the hospital around 11:30, and went straight to the desk in the third floor.
There was another customer before me, but the guy behind the counter remembered me and handed me a paper after a while and asked me to go to the first floor where the dentist is. I already knew where it was (having scoped it out yesterday) but Mihiris father was eager to show me so I let him.
Currently I'm sitting in the waiting room outside the dentist, watching a movie in Sinhalese (funny language, you really cant understand one single thing). My appointment at 12 is up now so I'll expect they will call my name soon. If this is to be my last words I would like to say that all in all I think the world could have been better organized and if I have to be reborn I'd like to be issued an upgraded world 2.0 with fewer bugs, thank you very much.
OK now it's past 12 but this is Asia. No panic. Still waiting patiently. Breath trough the nose. I am calm.
Did I say I'm having a bit of dentist-o-fobia? Well it includes most people working in hospitals (they tend to poke me with needles and stuff) but dentists don't even stop there, oh no, they bring out TOOLS like drilling machines, that awful boat hook and whatnot. And all your protests become just a string of vowels... "aughaga ugh gah!" "what? Hurts? No that didn't hurt but THIS might sting a bit! Muahahaha!".
12:15... Maybe I can escape and say they didn't show up? Mihiri would go spare. Better wait a bit more.
Interesting thing about Guest wifi at hospitals is that it works in a "proof of concept" way. That is, if one packet gets trough it did work at some point, yes? So it works, right?
I tried to use a speed test webpage located on a server of J2 Holding AB (Vikingstad) where I know the connection is 100Mbit/s, but the web page simply timed out. I.e the wifi is inmeasurably slow.
13:00... I survived! Polished up a bit I'm now sitting in the waiting room a few floors up again. I have almost 1h 30min until the final judgment (assessment of the test reports from yesterday) are to be done by a doctor, and I expect to be given a good speach about healthy living and how I should change my life style in all kinds of way to survive a few more years, possibly. Hmmmm... Then I'll get hit by a car and die and will have been eating all that tasteless salad and horrible green stuff (Kål) for nothing. I think not! Maybe I should get out and have something deep fried for lunch. While I can.
14:30... After a brief eye test, waist measuring, weight and height I was ushered back into the waiting chairs. The final judgment is drawing closer.
15:20... OK so the doctor poked at me with a stick and gave me the speach but now I'm free! The feeling is a bit like when your car has passed the yearly test although you know it sometimes act up and you wouldn't be surprised if they told you to strip it and sell it as spare parts.
- A full body checkup (executive health test) takes about 1-2 days (in my case I had to come back for the dentist)
- Dentist (scaling, polish) is optional but recommended
- Prices for me was:
-
- Executive health test: about 1600SEK
- Dental (Scaling, polish): about 320 SEK
- Treadmill (TMT) Stress test: about 220 SEK
- Blood group test: about 25 SEK
The reports could be downloaded from the hospital web page using a code on the receipt. Of course you also get a folder with the final reports, including ECG printouts and the big X-ray picture (to hang on the wall at home). Since you probably can't interpret the reports yourself you also get a consultation with a doctor who will tell you if you have anything you need to worry about).
I doubt you can do this test in Sweden at a private clinic for under 2165 SEK...
Lunch
Well since I was not dying today we went to Mc Donalds for lunch. A Big Mac & co cost about 40 SEK here.
- Ambience: As usual in Mc Donalds
- Price: Ok
- Service: Self service, short queue
- Seating: Table along a wall
Overall: Recommended
If you're looking for something that tastes as in Europe try McDonalds. They have some more curry and chicken versions here, but a Big Mac & co is a Big Mac & co.
